Function / Content

This series consists of a Head Office register of gold mining, mining and residential leases for District G [Granites goldfield]. The Mines Branch, Head Office was moved to Alice Springs during the period 1942-1953, and then moved back to Darwin. The register in NTRS 4162 has the spine labelled with District G [Granites] but that register has no entries for District G - this register appears to have been used instead. The inside cover has a taped index list headed Mineral Leases Granites Goldfield, but only the first two mineral leases have been entered.The register records details of number, total number of shares, locality, area, application dates both received and recommended, lease details, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fees and encumbrances.

Recordkeeping System

One only divided numerical register with several classes of holdings - GML [gold mining lease] prefix with G suffix, ML [mining lease] prefix with G suffix at folios 201-221 and RL [residential lease] prefix with G suffix at folio 241.
