Function / Content

This series consists of a numerical register of miner's rights by locality, issued from the Mines Branch, Head Office. The pages in the volume were not numbered although each page was divided into columns for; miner's right number, date of issue, expiry date, and name. The volume was then divided into sections (marked by a paperclip) to record details of miner's rights issued for the following locations; Alice Springs (1947-1962), Darwin (1947-1960), Tennant Creek (1947-1962), Pine Creek (1948-1962), Hatches Creek (1951-1959), and Maranboy (1947-1963). The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 and was then merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, in 1953 when it was moved back from Alice Springs to Darwin.
