How to Use the Records

The units in this series have been listed in the approximately order of the records received within the three accessions (P1-P3). As the maps and plans were stored separately to the shelved records, the corresponding map consignments have been listed separately and numbered P4-P6. A pdf copy of the original accession list is available upon request format for a more detailed description of the records in each grouping.

Function / Content

This series consists of petroleum survey reports and data submitted by oil companies. The reports include survey reports, fathometer records, aeromagnetic surveys, gravity surveys, seismic and velocity data, interpretative dolcuments, drill logs, computer printouts, monitor recordings, gamma readings, quality control records, aerial photos, flight logs, and line sections. The records are in a variety of formats includes films, maps, rolls of data. The companies which submitted surveys include Exoil, Finke Oil, Pacific American Oil, Australian Aquitaine Petroleum Pty Ltd, Flamingo Petroleum, Reef Oil, Bocal and Longreach Oil. The locations included in the surveys include the Arafura and Timor Seas, Van Dieman Gulf, Melville Island, Peron Island, Queen's Channel, Port Keats, and Tanami-Barrow Creek, Simpson Desert, Finke River, Poeppel Corner. The surveys documents have been assigned PR numbers and are then grouped by OP (on-shore) or NTP (off-shore) numbers.
