Function / Content

This series consists of a Head Office register of gold mining leases on the Maranboy goldfield. The register contains the following column titles; number, total number of shares, locality, area, application, lease, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fee, and encumbrances. The register contains entries for lease nos GML1D-GML31D. A handwritten list at the front of the volume contains details of; lease number, lessee, name of lease, minerals, and status (as at 1996). The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained two sets of registers for Darwin district (including Maranboy) and the Mines Branch, Head Office (relating to mining tenements and leases). The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs in 1942 and remained there until 1953 when it was moved back to Darwin.
