Function / Content

This series consists of a numerical register of miner's rights by locality, issued from the Mines Branch, Darwin. The pages in the volume were not numbered although each page was divided into columns for; miner's right number, date of issue, expiry date, and name. The volume was then divided into sections to record details of miner's rights issued for the following locations; Darwin (1946-1960), Maranboy (1946-1949), and Pine Creek (1946-1954). The Darwin entries are annotated with the locality relating to the miner's right issued (eg, Alice Springs, Maranboy, Tennant Creek, Darwin, or Hatches Creek). The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 and was then merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, in 1953 when it was moved back from Alice Springs to Darwin.
