Function / Content

This series consists of a copy register of gold mining leases on the Maranboy goldfield. The register contains the following column titles; number, total number of shares, locality, area, application, lease, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fee, and encumbrances. The register contains entries for lease nos GML1D-GML27D. The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained registers for Darwin district (including Maranboy) and the Mines Branch, Head Office relating to mining tenements and leases. The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 which was merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, in 1953 when it was moved back from Alice Springs to Darwin.
