Function / Content

This series consists of a single register in three volumes recording mineral leases in the central region of the Northern Territory. Each volume has an index listing tenement number, date of application, holder, date of determination and previous tenure. Some MLCs have a very early date since they have been issued under the 1980 Mining Act to tenements already issued as ML E and ML F. An example is MLC 440 which was formerly MLF 77 lodged on 20 January 1948. The contents of the registers do not fully allign with the indices, but the index entry has been highlighted when the full record is not held in the register. The contents of volume 3 are also not as the volume is labelled - the cover is labelled as MLC 501-750; the index lists MLC 531-685 and the register contains the more complete records for MLC 501-708. Each page of the register records the more complete details for each tenement number recording security, name of tenement, status of land, survey plan number, area, locality, map reference, registered holder, details of transfers, minerals concerned, date renewed to, date of gazette, instrument issued, authority to occupy issued, date and time lodged, former title registration, number and encumbrances. Not all details are completed for the entries in the register.
