This series consists of a register of applications for protected mining leases in Barrow Creek and Alice Springs area. Each region has an index. The Barrow Creek index (inside front cover) and Alice Springs index (inside back cover) documents name, lease number and then mine name, lease number. The Barrow Creek register documents applications in the Kurranalli, Hatches Creek, and Barrow Creek itself. The register is located at the front of the volume and records parts of a single number system then BK1-BK207. The Alice Springs Register commenced on 1 May 1939. Registrations in force on that date were recorded in the register. These registrations which are located at the back of the volume record parts of a single number system, a single number system with 'A' prefix and a single number system with 'AS' prefix. The 'AS' series was then recorded in detail from that date. These numbers ran to AS167. Each page documents the number, date, hour, name of applicants, name and situation of lease applied for, area in acres, annual rent and protection fee, period of protection (rent paid to), remarks. Notes have been added in red for when the lease has lapsed, been withdrawn, surrendered or reapplied for under another application after the initial information applied to the register.
