Function / Content

This series consists of correspondence files relating to mining matters such as sales, rents, miner's rights, reports and leases. File 2 regarding Scientific Gold Explorations Limited, includes the reservations of the Warden AE Koop, as to the probity of the Sydney formed company. A small map of the Tanami Goldfield is also included. Files 8 and 10 contain information relating to National Security Regulations. File 8 contains correspondence relating to National Security (Land Transfer) Regulations and enemy aliens; primarily relating to Italian mica miners at Harts Range. A letter dated 21/08/1940 it states that "no miners rights be issued to them [aliens], that they not be able to hold title to any ground for mining purposes and that they may not now perform legally any mining work on their own account". It is also stated that Italians are allowed to remain at Harts Range. File 10 contains a copy of the National Security (Land Transfer) Regulations and amendments made to it as well as related correspondence as to its implications in central Australia. In a letter dated 25/07/1940 enemy aliens are defined as being a former subject of Germany, Austria or Italy, who have been naturalised and includes wife of such person and widow of enemy alien.
