Function / Content

This series consists of a report by the Chief Surveyor, AR Miller, relating to the various town planning options on Darwin from 1936 to 1950. The two page report (with appendices) summarises the history of town planning options, meetings, decisions, functions and activities concerning the replanning of Darwin. Appendix A is an extract of reports by; WT Haslam, Senior Architect, Works and Services Branch,;;Department of the Interior, dated 15 December 1936; DL Davidson, Town Planner, Town Planning Commission, Perth, dated 23 March 1937; the formation of a Town Planning Board in 1937; and the Hon. HS Foll, Minister for the Interior, dated 8 December 1939. Appendix B contains an extract of Ministerial statements. Appendix C includes a copy of the cabinet submission prepared by JA Carrodas as;;Chairman, Inter-Departmental Committee on Darwin Town Planning, dated 7 July 1945. Appendix D contains notes by AR Miller on the ethical factors in planning, and a history of the Town Planning Section, Department of Works and Housing.
