Function / Content

This series consists of tabulations used to compile statistics relating to mining and employment in the Northern Territory. The tabulations were reports sent to the Mining Registrar in Darwin (after 1978 they were sent to the Statistics Officer) and were created based on information received from other agencies (such as the Water Resources Branch) and Mining Registrars in other districts. Included is a file containing monthly reports from the Mining Registrar, Tennant Creek (file title: Production Return, Mining Registrar, Tennant Creek, box: 1) which is a table of information about mining in Warramunga Goldfield. The table headings are: mining centres [name of lease], class of holding and lease number, number of employees [above and below ground], ore treated, gold produced, and remarks. Box 2 contains files titled by goldfield name (eg, Maranboy) and, if relevant, locality within the goldfield (eg, Horseshoe Creek). These files contain individual tabulation sheets for each mineral (eg, tin).
