Function / Content

This series consists of the master microfilm copy of a mines ledger relating to Tennant Creek and the Barrow Creek region. Also included are registers of gold mining lease applications, creation of shares, appointment of agent, and amalgamation leases miners rights. Although the volume was originally a Departmental Register of Accounts (form no. 23), it was converted for other uses. The Register of Gold Leases was initially used to record leases in the Barrow Creek district (ie, Granites, Tanami and Tennant Creek) then became a register for Tennant Creek only. In this part of the register each page is divided into columns for registration number (both application and lease number), date, leasees, situation, rent, paid to, and remarks. Registration numbers range from G1-GML 569. In 1984 the mines ledger was transferred from the National Archives of Australia to the Northern Territory Archives Service where it was then microfilmed in 1991.
