Function / Content

This series consists of applications for mining claims and certificate of application for mining claims in the Tennant Creek region. The numbers in the series, taken from the certificate of application, are between 5 and 491 and the following are missing 259-288 and 458. The applications and the certificates are folded in to foolscap dockets containing the Application for Mining Claim form and the Certificate of Application for Mining Claim form and the back of the application form functions as the cover of the docket in many instances. This cover records the type of lease, the date and time it was received, the signature of the relevant warden, it is then noted whether the lease was granted, the certificate number issued, the date and, again, the relevant warden and beneath this various notes are added regarding forfeitures, inspections, transfers, etc. The Application for Mining Lease form includes the date and time of the application, the Warden to which it is addressed (Tennant Creek or mining district B), the type of lease they are applying for, the size and location of the applied for claim and the name that this claim will be registered. Beneath this is a table with a column for the signature of applicants and another column for their miners' rights number and date. The Certificate of Application for Mining Claim form contains the application number at the top left of the page and the form certifies that the undermentioned person had made an application for a lease, the details of the lease and the applicants details and the signature of the relevant warden. It is then notes, on the bottom of the form, that [t]his form must within forty-eight hours after the receipt thereof be posted on the conspicuous part of the ground applied for, and also at the Warden's office, and be kept posted for six clear days.
