This series consists of folders of correspondence regarding mining matters in the Tennant Creek region. The files include correspondence relating to gold mine applications and fees, water supply, requests for administrative forms and copies of remittances and invoices. Some files have been bound. Included within the series is a file [staff, 1939-1941] regarding staffing at the Mines Branch Tennant Creek which includes information regarding salary, freight allowances, appointments to positions (including temporary appointments), commencement of duties and 'relinquishment of appointments' (resignations), rental of furniture, recreation leave and other matters relating to employment. Another file of interest [taxation] relates to taxes deducted from wages from Tennant Creek employees, group certificates and lists of deductions from battery employees which provides their names, which battery they worked for, the amounts deducted and the amount paid. The majority of this correspondence is addressed from the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation to A Kelley the Mining Registrar. Included on file is a Treasury circular (number 1940/33, file 2340/40/5108), dated 10/12/1940, regarding the collection of Commonwealth income tax by Commonwealth Officers and Employees and public service pensioners.
