How to Use the Records

An index page is incuded in the front of the first volume, which records the description and page number of the diagram. The original records are closed to access for preservation reasons. Reference copies in plan format are in NTRS 3997.

Function / Content

This series consists of registers of township survey diagram drawings for the Northern Territory. The diagrams record the survey details for the area or portion of land with references to adjoining locations and portions. The township name is recorded, and the NT drawing number. The drawings are certified and dated by a surveyor, and some include gazette references. Most diagrams include a reference table which refers to the relevant surveyor's field book no, and pages, the date the land was offered, the number and area of sections, descripion and locality, and includes the total area of sections, roads and reserves. A table of improvements it included. The drawings scale is in chains per inch. Some diagrams are drawn in colour and depict types of vegetation and location of geographic land masses and water courses.
