How to Use the Records

Only fragments of the register have survived, with most pages illegible due to water damage. The portion of the register received conservation treatment at the Australian Archives during 1975-1980.

Function / Content

This series consists of a portion of a register of applications for mineral licences and leases. The register of applications was kept during 1888-1889 and recorded; number of application, date, name of applicant, situation, area in acres, licence (number and date), expiration of licence (date and gazetted), date renewal granted, survey, transfers, plan of survey, leases (date of application and number), and remarks. Also included are copies of notices from government gazettes relating to ruby fields near Alice Springs, and fragments of lists of mineral claims.
