Function / Content

This series consists of a register used to record details of data plans, compiled maps, exploration maps, railway plans, field books and level books. An index is included at the front of the register. The register is divided into the following sections; data plans (pp.1-6), compiled plans (pp.7-16), Darwin compilations (p.18), exploration maps (pp.19-20), railway plans (pp.22-23), and water supply and level field books (pp.26-34). Of these the following three sections have date ranges recorded; exploration maps (1864-1915), field books (1869-1924), and level books (1914-1933). The data plans, compiled plans and Darwin compilations sections record entries in six columns titled; plan no, locality, classification, surveyor, field book, and description of survey. The exploration section includes columns for; plan no, locality, explorer, date, description of survey, and remarks. The railways plans section includes the following details; plan number, scale to the inch, classification, surveyor, locality (from and to), mileage (from and to), and remarks. The field book section includes a list of old field books for the period 1869-1886 (pp.26-27) and new field books for 1913-1924 (pp. 28-33) in columns titled; field book, classification, surveyor, date, and description of survey. The level book section (pp.34-36) was used to record; level book number, surveyor, date, and description of survey for the period 1914-1938. The Darwin water supply level books section (pp.37-44) includes the following details; number, date, surveyor, and description for the period 1936-1938.
