Function / Content

This series consists of files relating to occupation development licenses in the Northern Territory. Files include correspondence, mortgage documents, extracts from the Gazette, applications for and surrenders of pastoral leases, and approval sheets. Envelopes attached inside the front cover of file contain plans of blocks and schedules. Occupation development licenses were annual licenses for large areas of land to be used for pastoral purposes. They ran for a maximum period of five years. Following the grant of more secure pastoral lease tenure over part of the former licence area, the lessee was given the opportunity to retain use of the residue license area not included in the new pastoral lease.
