This series consists of correspondence files with 'BDM' (births, deaths and marriages) prefix maintained by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Files include correspondence relating to notifications of births, deaths and marriages to other authorities such as Social Welfare, Taxation, Electoral Office, Immigration and Social Services; notification of divorces from other jurisdictions; adoption enquiries, late registrations of births; legitimations of children under the Marriage Act 1961; and registration of clergy as marriage celebrants.

Single number, "BDM" (births, deaths and marriages) prefix. The numbering system seems to have been imposed on files in May-June1965. References on papers predating May-June 1965 indicates that this single number with "BDM" prefix system replaced an annual single number system.
