The Department of Primary Industry and Resources was established by changes to Administrative Arrangement Orders in September 2016 amalgamating primary industry, fisheries, mining and resources. The department brings together key functions driving economic development on Northern Territory lands, coastal and inland waterways - mines and energy, fisheries and product integrity, primary industry development and the Northern Territory Geological Survey. The department is structured into 9 divisions encompassing 4 major business areas, 6 areas of central services and 3 areas of corporate services - primary industry development, NT Geological Survey, corporate services and regional management, mines and energy, external strategy and policy coordination, ministerial liaison, fisheries and product integrity, departmental strategic services and emergency management. The functions were absorbed into the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade due to changes in Administrative Arrangements Orders in September 2020.
