Function / Content

This series consists of a Head Office register of gold mining leases on the Daly River goldfield. The entries were recorded in the following columns; number, total number of shares, locality, area, application, lease, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fee, and paid on. Five entries were recorded on folio nos 100-105 for gold lease nos GML1K-GML6K. Folio no.1 contained one entry for GML1C which was annotated "entered in error". The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained two sets of registers for Darwin district (including Daly River) and the Mines Branch, Head Office (relating to mining tenements and leases). The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs in 1942 and remained there until 1953 when it was moved back to Darwin.
