Function / Content

This series consists of a copy register of mineral and residential leases in the Waggaman goldfield (Darwin). The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained registers for Darwin district and the Mines Branch, Head Office relating to mining tenements and leases. The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 and was then merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, when it was moved from Alice Springs back to Darwin. The register contains the following column titles; number, total number of shares, locality, area, application, lease, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fee, and encumbrances. The register contains entries for mineral leases, nos ML1B-ML195B and one residential lease no.RL1B.
