The Association had a two tier membership system (full and associate members), and members paid an annual membership fee. Its executive committee comprised of between five and eight members, included the offices of President and two Vice Presidents. The executive committee held office for a period of 12 months with elections by ballot at the Annual General Meeting.
The Association's constitution included a list of objectives including donating to charity, applying for a club licence, purchasing property, and assisting in the establishment of pastoral or agricultural colleges or experimental farms. The dwindling membership numbers and limited membership revenue base eventually led to the demise of the Association.
In 1981 the Cattlemen's Association of North Australia was dissolved and the former members established the Katherine Branch of the Northern Territory Pastoral Lessees Association.
