The inaugural committee meeting was held on 1 March 1982 at the NT Cattle Council office in Darwin. The committee was then formed with representatives from the NT Cattle Council, Cattlemen's Union (NT), Buffalo Industry Council, and Northern Farmer's Association.
The committee was not a statutory authority and its functions were defined as: consulting with the Department of Primary Production about the campaign to eradicate brucellosis and tuberculosis from the NT cattle and buffalo herds, and to present the views of cattle producers to government and promote industry understanding of government policy and programs.
John Dyer was elected Chairman and Cliff Emerson was designated minute secretary and appointed to act as liaison between the government and the committee.
Topics discussed by the committee included destocking, monitoring and reporting test results, security, boundary fencing, and specific government proposals such as the Calley plan (presented by Dr Graham Calley, senior government veterinary officer).
The last meeting of the committee was held on 15 February 1985 in Tennant Creek.
The Department of Primary Production established a new committee in March 1985, the Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign (BTEC) Planning and Consultative Committee, which included a wider membership and was aligned to the national committee.
