This series consists of typed or handwritten copies of mining industry statistics for the Northern Territory. The statistics collected show the total amount of bullion/ore mined (gold bullion measured in ounces, ores measured in tons) in 6-month and 12-month periods, and the total value in monetary terms. The mining statistics for 1880 includes a table showing gold mining production for the years 1872-1886 (file title: Mining Industry Statistics, Mineral Production for year 1880). The statistics from 1882 onwards include ores, such as tin and copper. Silver Lead bullion is included from 1886 onwards and Mica from 1896. The files from 1885 onwards give statistics at 6 month and 12 month intervals. Most files from December 1889 onwards include a separate gold report showing the locality, amount (bullion and fine) and value. Letterhead from the Department of the Northern Territory found in the file titled "Mining Industry Statistics, Mineral Production for year 1887, 31st December 1887" suggests these statistics were compiled for a project during the Commonwealth Administration.
