Function / Content

This series consists of a copy register of residential leases on the Waggaman goldfield (Darwin). The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained separate registers for Darwin district and the Mines Branch, Head Office relating to mining tenements and leases. The register contains the following column titles; number, total number of shares, locality, area, application, lease, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fee, and encumbrances. The register contains entries for residential lease nos RL1B-RL5B on page nos 1-6. The rest of the volume, page nos 7-250, is blank. The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 and was then merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, in 1953 when it was moved back from Alice Springs to Darwin.
