This series consists of registers of trade unions, printers, newspapers, and recognizances. Volume 1 is divided into four sections and includes registers of trade unions (pages 1-2), printing presses (pages 49-52), newspapers (pages 99-104) and recognizances (pages 150-154). The register of trade unions was collected according to the Trade Union Act 1876 of the colony of South Australia and the Trade Union Ordinance 1922. The information regarding trade unions is divided into 10 columns titled; number, date, file number, name of union, date of application, date of registration, date of certificate, fees paid, date paid, and receipt number. The information collected relating to printing presses, newspapers and recognizances was gathered according to the Printers and Newspapers Ordinance 1928. The register of printing presses records details of the following; date, name, premises, schedule, name of paper, and remarks. The register of newspapers contains the following information; name of paper, vendors and proprietors, intended printer, intended publisher, place of printing, sworn, schedule, and file. The register of recognizances includes the following details; date, printer and publisher, and other sureties. The entries from all registers are for the period 1922-1954, with annotations dated up to 1973. Volume 2 contains 3 sections; registration of printing presses only (no information recorded), schedule of notices and affidavits, and recognizances completed. The schedule of notices and affidavits contains details of the following; date, name of newspaper or printer, and schedules completed. Recognizances completed includes entries for the following; file reference, name of newspaper, date, printer and publisher, members, date cancelled, amount, and remarks. This volume also includes an index card relating to appointees to the post of Registrar of printers and newspapers for the period 1973-1975, and a copy of the Printers and Newspapers Ordinance
