Function / Content

This series consists of files relating to church land leases held by the Land Administration Branch under the Commonwealth administration of the Northern Territory. The Church Land Leases Ordinance made provision for land to be leased to churches under specific and very beneficial conditions. The Ordinance required the leased land to be 'used solely as a site for a church' (extract from Ordinance, Box 1, Item CLL8, p. 101) and originally intended that only one lease per church could be issued. The files contain correspondence, building plans, internal minute forms, excerpts from changing legislation, and documents relating to the conversion of leases to freehold or alternative arrangements.
