Description

The Northern Territory Legislative Assembly was created in 1974 by the Northern Territory Administration Act 1974, but with only limited powers until self-government was attained in 1978. The position of Majority Leader was appointed by the party with the winning majority and headed an Executive that carried out most of the functions of a ministry at the State [Territory] level.
