Function / Content

This series consists of Australasian criminal registers and supplements. The registers contain a general index, nickname index, photographs and finger prints, of 600 pickpockets, confidence tricksters, assailants and robbers, thieves, properties breakers, false pretenders, and forgers. These criminals operated throughout Australia and New Zealand and the registers were compiled from the central card index of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Sydney. The registers have been annotated in red pen to denote whether the people named had been captured or deceased. The supplements contain the photgraphs and modus operandi of known criminals operating throughout the Commonwealth and New Zealand. One customised register has been created for Darwin in 1969 which also details home address, employer's address; car details, prior offences as well as anything else believed to be noteworthy such as known associates.
