Function / Content

This series consists of reports by police officers of their personal experiences relating to Cyclone Tracy. A memo was sent to all Darwin police officers in January 1975 advising that a commission of enquiry was anticipated to examine the events and responses to Cyclone Tracy. All members of all sections were instructed to submit a report detailing the following; whether the police officer was on duty, home address and who was in the house during the cyclone, personal experiences during the cyclone, details of injuries and damage to personal property, movements and action taken after the cyclone, and whether family members were evacuated. Some reports contain details of search and rescue operations, and the recovery of deceased persons. File 2 contains part of a staff roster from 28 December 1974 with notes about the location of police officers, and the use of schools for shelters and food distribution.
