Function / Content

This series consists of watchhouse day journals which record the daily activities of the police on duty at the main watchhouse in Darwin (later Berrimah Centre) Police Station. Details recorded include cell checks, prisoners received and property listed, prisoners released, handover of prisoners to be escorted to other locations, and meals provided. The time and name of the police officer involved in the activity is also recorded. Care and discretion should be used when viewing these records. Language used in these records reflects the language used at the time the records were created, and therefore may be offensive. This series contains references to people of Aboriginal descent who have died, and therefore may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these records available.
