This series consists of a charge book relating to Aboriginal people taken into custody for the possession or consumption of liquor under the Licensing Ordinance. The information recorded includes the number of the charge; the date and hour of apprehension and recording charge; name and address of prisoner; age and height; calling (or occupation); nationality; religion; offence; property found on person (money and other property); signatures of the station sergeant and searching constable, if bailed (date and hour, by whose order, amount of cash or surety, and bail form no.); how case disposed of, name of magistrate and date, if not bailed (date and time discharged from cells), and suspected supplier. Some language used in these records (which reflects the language used at the time the records were created) may be offensive. This collection may contain references to Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these records available.
