Function / Content

This series consists of criminal offence reports and supplementary criminal offence reports from Darwin Police Station. Criminal offence reports record the station the report was taken at; the date; a COR number; details of the offence; committed at (location); date and hour; on whom committed; their occupation and address; date and hour reported to the police and by whom reported; if any fingerprints are visible; description of stolen property; names of offenders if known; their description; any issued warrants; steps taken. Where relevant the following details are also recorded on the verso: full details of method used in committing offence including class of property; how entrance effected; tools used; character of criminal; method used to remove property; details of peculiar act at scene as in eating food; how property disposed of; associates; districts and places frequented by offender; methods used in committing priors; any relevant photographs in system; date arrested and by whom; details of any fingerprints taken and general remarks.The reports are dated and signed by the relevant police officers with their rank. Supplementary report of criminal offence or police inquiry forms record the station the report was taken at; the date of a previous criminal offence report; the reference to Police Gazette (if any); the offence; the complainant; names of offenders; description; if a warrant has been issued; districts and places frequented by offenders; how property disposed of; steps taken in the investigation; and additional particulars. Again, the form is signed by the relevant police officer with their rank. Included on file is related correspondence. Some language used in these records (which reflects the language used at the time the records were created) may be offensive. This series may contain references to Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these records
