Function / Content

This series consists of a Head Office register of gold mining and residential leases for District H [Arunta, Alice Springs]. The Mines Branch, Head Office was moved to Alice Springs during the period 1942-1953, and then moved back to Darwin. The spine is labelled with District G [Granites] but the register has no entries for District G. The inside cover has both a loose list of GML numbers from 1H-91H and a taped alphabetical list of the leases. The register records details of number, total number of shares, locality, area, application dates both received and recommended, lease details, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fees and encumbrances.

Recordkeeping System

One only divided numerical register with several classes of holdings - GML [gold mining lease] prefix with H suffix, and RL [residential lease] prefix with H suffix at folios 221-225 and 241-251.
