Function / Content

This series consists of the the chief clerk's copy of the minutes from the Primary Producers Board between 1936 and 1938. The chief clerk during this time was Mr GJ Pigott. The members of the Primary Producer's Board who also functioned as the Northern Territory Land Board comprised also of Mr FP Shepherd (Surveyor-General of the Northern Territory) and the Administrator. Two members formed a quorum except in the case of disagreement where all members were required to be present. The functions of the Board were to give financial assistance to producers in matters of machinery and fencing as well as to provide rations for limited periods, seeds, fishing nets and boats. Some language used in these records (which reflects the language used at the time the records were created) may be offensive. This collection may contain references to Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these records available.
