Function / Content

This series consists of 16mm films of East Arm Settlement. The narrated documentary was filmed in colour and includes images of schoolchildren, views of houses and buildings, patients undergoing treatment, patients in the x-ray unit, and the surgical bootmaker fitting specially made rubber shoes for patients. Extra sequences, without sound, are contained on two reels and include images of patients being supervised while performing hand exercises, a nun playing tennis with a patient, flowers, children playing, an Aboriginal man painting a mural, views of the settlement, and credits. This series contains images of Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these images available. Care and discretion should be used when viewing these films. These films were donated by Dr John Hargrave in 2006.
