Function / Content

This series consists of 16mm films of East Arm Leprosy Hospital. The film is a narrated black and white documentary relating to the establishment and daily activities of the hospital and includes images of Aboriginal men singing and dancing, young girls sewing, views of the houses near the hospital, and nuns from the order of Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, and an interview with an Aboriginal man, Phillip Roddicks, relating to his work at the hospital. This series contains images of Aboriginal people who have died, which may cause sadness and distress to their relatives. No offence has been intended by making these images available. Care and discretion should be used when viewing these films. These films were donated by Dr John Hargrave in 2006.
