Most of the entries relate to town leases in Darwin with the following entries relating to other locations; Katherine (nos. 225-280, 298, 301-302, 304, 307-308), Playford (nos. 291, 335), Mataranka (nos. 315-334, 336), and Stuart (nos. 156-165, 170-176, 178, 181, 189-192, 195, 197-207, 214, 218, 220-222, 281-283, 285, 293-294, 298, 306, 309-310, 312-313).

Function / Content

This series consists of a register of perpetual town leases in Darwin, Stuart (Alice Springs), Playford (Pine Creek), Katherine and Mataranka. The register was used to record the following information; name of lessee, address, occupation, allotment, town of, suburban or town, area (acres), date of auction, date of commencement, application number, debit (rent, when due, paid to, amount due), credit (date of payment, amount paid on account of rent, amount of penalty paid, number of letter), and remarks. Most entries are annotated regarding whether the lease was cancelled or forfeited. A note on page 339 states the book was closed and all new entries were made on cards starting from number 339.
