Date Range:1977 - 1978

Description

The Forestry, Fisheries and Land Conservation Branch of the Department of the Northern Territory was the result of administrative change associated with the gradual transfer of functions from the Commonwealth to the Northern Territory Public Service. The wildlife and National Parks functions were the first functions to transfer under the authority of the Department of the Chief Secretary on 31 December 1976. The establishment of the Department of Resources and Health on 19 September 1977 took on the additional functions of environment and conservation, mining and forestry. At the same time, Fisheries became the responsibility of the newly established Department of Transport and Industry.
