Function / Content

This series consists of a register of auction sales of town leases, and a register of auction sales of town leases and wells. The first volume was used to record auctions of town leases in Darwin and Stuart (Alice Springs) during 1913 to 1914. Adjacent pages in the volume were divided into columns; number of lot at sale, number of section, area, upset rental, town or suburban, amount of rent paid, penalty, total payment, paid to, and remarks. The second volume was originally used to record "Auction Town Leases". Entries made on pages 1-6 were a continuation of auction sales from the first volume. The volume was then used as a register of wells, with a brief index which referred to; wells held under water lease, wells under Mines Department, and wells under Post & Telegraph Department, and resumed. The information relating to wells was recorded in the following columns; number of folio, name of well, number of well, and remarks. Page 180 also includes a list of general reports on wells. Pages 181-189 were used to record the administration and lease history of Wycliffe Well no.19, Wauchope Well, Woodforde Well No.24a, William's Well, and Yam Creek no.3.
