The lease numbers for each volume include; volume 1 (nos. 1 - 250), volume 2 (nos. 251 - 500), volume 3 (nos. 501 - 750), volume 4 (nos. 751 - 1000), volume 5 (nos. 1001 - 1250), volume 6 (nos. 1251 - 1500), and volume 7 (nos. 1501 - 1811).

This series consists of registers of Darwin town area leases. The registers were used to record the following information; lease number, register book (volume and folio), description of land, purpose, area, gazetted, auctioned, unimproved capital value, annual rent, application (date received, amount deposited, date dealt with, how deposit disposed of), term of lease, address of lessee, address of mortgagee, nature of transaction, applicant and transferees, date of transfer, registration number, first year payments, payments (due, paid, penalty, receipt), period (quarter year), and payments (due, paid, penalty, receipt).
