The leases were split from their bindings during a scanning project undertaken by the agency prior to transfer resulting in their fragility.

Function / Content

This series consists of crown leases held in volumes for the Northern Territory of Australia. The types of leases include pastoral, mineral or gold mining. Information recorded on the lease includes date, name and town of lessee, area of lease, legislation issued under, term of the lease and commencement, rent, plan of lease area, conditions of lease, and signature of the Surveyor-General or Adminstrator. The leases in voumes with NRCL on the spine have been issued pursuant to the Crown Lands Ordinance 1912 and have been signed by the Administrator. The leases with NTCL on the spine have been issued pursuant to the Crown Lands Act 1890 and have been signed by the Surveyor General, however they are an on-going sequence. The leases also contain details on forfeitures and transfers, and signed by the Lessee and Commissioner of Crown Lands.
