Description

The Northern Territory Administration commenced a review and restructure of its operations in October 1970. As part of the changes, the Forestry Branch was amalgamated with the Animal Industry and Agriculture Branch to form the Forestry, Fisheries, Wildlife and National Parks Branch with operations recorded in the Northern Territory Annual Report of 1971-1972. 'The Branch assumed control and responsibility for National Parks, wildlife management and control. The Branch worked in close co-operation with the Northern Territory Reseves Board with its Director also bing a member of that Board.
'A five year development programme provided for increased plantings, the extension of management areas, inventory surveys, research...expanding the previous forestry operations in the Northern Territory.
In January 1973, the Northern Territory Administration became absorbed into the newly created Department of the Northern Territory...and on 16 April 1973, the branch was renamed to Forestry, Fisheries, Wildlife, Environment and National Parks Branch'.
