Description

The Department of Business, Industry and Resource Development was established by Administrative Arrangements Order changes in November 2001, when the Departments of Primary Industry and Fisheries, Mines and Energy, Asian Relations and Trade, Industries and Business and part of the Office of Regional Development were amalgamated.

The department had a primary role in the economic development of the Territory, complementing the Office of Territory Development in attracting investment and major projects. It was a lead agency in implementing many of the recommendations of the Economic Development Summit held November 2001 and the subsequent committments made by the Chief Minister to the NT Economic Development Strategy. Administrative Arrangements Order changes in July 2005 split the department into the Department of Primary Industry, Fisheries and Mines and the Department of Business, Economic and Regional Development.
