Function / Content

This series consists of a register to record details of data plans, compiled maps, exploration maps, railway plans, field books and level books. An index is included at the back of the register. The register is divided into the following six sections; data plans (pp.1-12), compiled plans (pp.20-27), Darwin compilations (p.49), exploration maps (pp.50-51), railway plans (pp.60-61), field books (pp.80-89), and level books (pp.89-90). Of these the following three sections have date ranges recorded; exploration maps (1864-1915), field books (1869-1924), and level books (1914-1933). Annotations throughout the register cover the period 1924-1961, and include notes about information registered in the Drafting Office Plan Register (available in NTRS 2441). The Data Plans, Compiled Plans and Darwin Compilations sections record entries in six columns titled; plan no, locality, classification, surveyor, FB [field book], and description of survey. Exploration maps includes columns for explorer and date. The railways plans section includes columns for scale to the inch [chains or miles], and mileage (from and to). The level book section has four columns; level book no, surveyor, date, and description of survey, while the level book section also includes an extra column titled classification [old or recent].
