Function / Content

This series consists of matron's journals used to record the daily activities of female prisoners. The journals were used to record; date, muster roll, prison cells, rations, discipline, employment of prisoners, weather, prisoners on sick list, report of night guards, remarks, and number of short sentence prisoners. The entries were completed and signed by the Matron on duty. Volume 2 includes details of prisoners received and discharged, and volume 3 contains a description of the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy (disaster day). These are the surviving volumes salvaged from the Darwin Gaol after the cyclone in 1974.
