The meeting papers are in chronological order by meeting date within the volume . Some volumes have been bound in reverse chronological order. An index has been provided by the Cabinet Office.

Function / Content

This series consists of the meeting papers of the Executive Council of the Northern Territory Government. The meeting papers include an agenda for each meeting followed by business papers (usually on green paper) with the related attachments. The decision or action is usually noted on the business paper. Copies of correspondence from the Clerk of the Executive Council advising of the decision of the Council is also included. Minutes of the previous meetings (usually on yellow paper) were provided until 25 September 1978. In most cases papers presented to the Executive Council have been previously endorsed by Cabinet. Matters dealt with include statutory appointments (such as stipendiary magistrates), regulations, legislation and administrative arrangement orders. Items of interest include the establishment of new Northern Territory Government departments on 21 August 1978; the Administrative Arrangement Orders for the first NT Government on 1 July 1978, and a business paper relating to a lease for a brick works which includes photographs of brick buildings in Darwin in 1977 (Business Paper 216, meeting 27 September 1977). The date range of the papers includes the date of the attachments. In some instances multiple meetings were held on the same day.
