This series consists of civil case dockets for the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, in Darwin and Alice Springs. The jurisdiction of the court cases included Matrimonial Causes, Testamentary Causes (Probate), Contract, Tort, Adoption, Land Disputes, and Justices Appeals. The majority of matters especially after the 1960's relate to personal injury, commercial matters (mainly recovery of debts) and adoptions. Cases include supply of liquor to an aboriginal person period (pursuant to the Aboriginal Ordinance of 1918/53) with sentence of six months imprisonment with hard labour (compared to minor stealing offences which had a penalty of 2 months imprisonment with hard labour); adoptions when the mother had married, and the new husband and the mother applied for adoption of the child, whose surname was changed to that of the husband; matrimonial causes (prior to the introduction of the Family Law Act in 1975); industrial relations, and Justices' appeals from the Local Court.
