This series consists of a register in three volumes recording mining leases in the Pine Creek/Agicondi goldfiled, District A. The register records details of number, total number of shares, locality, area (applied for, surveyed), application (received, recommended), lease (approved, gazetted, to whom issued and date of issue, term), name of lease, registered lessees (name, number of shares), registrar's initials, transfers (date, number, transferee's name, number of shares), exemptions (number, period (from, to)), rent (year, amount) receipt number. and date, survey fee and paid on, encumbrances. Encumbrances contain the following notes with dates of each stage if they occurred; objection (who by), refused (reason), forfeited (why), gazetted, posted, withdrawn lodged and accepted. The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained two sets of registers for Darwin district and the Mines Branch, Head Office (relating to mining tenements and leases). The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs in 1942 and remained there until 1953 when it was moved back to Darwin.
